What This Site Does

HomeJobCosts is an independent cost reference for US home service projects. It currently covers 12 trades and adjusts costs for 20 metropolitan areas based on regional labor cost differences. Every project page pairs a written cost breakdown with a calculator pre-filtered to that project.

How Data Is Sourced

Cost ranges are compiled from published pricing, not from primary research. No contractor survey is run and no bids are collected. Figures are assembled by comparing published cost ranges across multiple independent sources and recording where they converge.

The Methodology page sets out the exact sources, the calculation, and — importantly — the known limitations of this approach.

Who Writes This Site

The site is published under its brand name rather than under individual bylines. It makes no claim to represent licensed tradespeople, and it does not present anyone as a credentialed expert. Authority here rests on one thing only: showing the working. That is why the methodology, the source list and the limitations are published rather than summarised, and why corrections are invited below.

What This Site Is Not

HomeJobCosts is not a contractor referral service. It does not employ, endorse or recommend any contractor or service provider, and it does not give professional advice. The figures here are a planning reference, not a quote, and they do not replace a written quote from a licensed professional.

How the Site Makes Money

The site currently carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no lead-generation forms, and earns nothing. Display advertising is the intended model. Whatever is added, it will not change a cost figure: revenue is never tied to a specific contractor being recommended, because no contractor is ever recommended.
