Questions
- Is tile priced by the room or by the surface?
- By the surface. A backsplash runs $480 – $1,500 and a tiled floor $1,500 – $6,500. A shower is priced separately again, because the waterproofing behind it is a layer the other two do not have.
- Does removing the old tile cost extra?
- Yes, as its own line: $320 – $1,120 here. The top of that range is thinset bonded to a concrete slab, where the substrate has to be ground back flat before anything new goes down.
- Is porcelain dearer to install than ceramic?
- The labour figures are close — porcelain installation runs $1,500 – $5,000 against $1,500 – $6,500 for tile work generally. The difference sits in the material price and in cutting, not in the hours.
- Why is tiling separate from flooring?
- Because the pricing separates even where the jobs overlap: tile work is quoted per surface and carries substrate preparation the flooring ranges exclude. Tiled floors are listed on both hubs for that reason.
